About
Dr. Caelan Soma is a licensed clinical psychologist and master level social worker with more than 25 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Her work focuses on helping people understand and regulate strong emotions by translating trauma and nervous system science into practical tools for everyday life.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Soma has authored and co-authored multiple books and developed widely used curricula designed to help children and adolescents understand and manage stress, trauma, emotional overwhelm, and challenging behavior. Her work has been used by educators, clinicians, and organizations supporting children and families.
Much of this work was developed while she served as Chief Clinical Officer of a nonprofit organization focused on trauma-informed education. In that role, she helped lead the development of books, training programs, and practical frameworks used by schools, clinicians, and caregivers to support children impacted by stress and trauma.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Soma has created online courses for parents, professionals, and graduate-level university programs. She has presented to thousands of parents, educators, and clinicians through conferences, professional trainings, and keynote presentations. Her work has also contributed to broader efforts to strengthen social and emotional wellness for children, including influencing public policy and professional practice related to trauma-informed care.
Dr. Soma's clinical background is rooted in trauma-informed care, with a specialization in emotional regulation across the lifespan. She helps parents, caregivers, and professionals better understand why strong emotions arise and how to respond in ways that support regulation and connection.
Her work focuses on:
- Trauma-informed, nervous system based education
- Practical strategies for emotional regulation
- Consultation for parents, caregivers, and professionals
- Select trauma-focused therapy offered on a limited basis
Whether supporting a child through big feelings, helping parents respond differently during moments of overwhelm, or working with adults whose early experiences continue to shape emotional responses, the goal is the same: helping people develop greater stability, flexibility, and choice in how they respond to life's challenges.
