Body-based, regulation-focused practice
I translate trauma and nervous system science into usable tools for real people.

The Body First Framework was created for parents so they can understand what's happening underneath behavior and learn ways to support emotional regulation.

About Me

Dr. Caelan Soma

I'm a clinical psychologist with over 25 years of experience. I specialize in translating trauma and nervous system science into practical tools for real-world use.

My background is in trauma-informed clinical work, including EMDR, with a specialization in emotional regulation across the lifespan. Over time, my work has expanded beyond the therapy room into education and consulting — helping people understand why strong emotions arise and how to respond differently.

My approach is grounded, practical, and deeply respectful of the nervous system's role in behavior, relationships, and healing. My work focuses on:

  • Trauma-informed, nervous-system–based education
  • Practical strategies for emotional regulation
  • Consultation for parents, caregivers, and professionals
  • Select trauma-focused therapy offered on a limited basis

Whether you're supporting a child, navigating your own emotional responses, or seeking a deeper understanding of regulation, the goal is the same: more stability, flexibility, and choice.

In addition to working with children, adolescents, and parents, I also provide trauma-focused therapy for adults, including EMDR, particularly for individuals whose early experiences continue to impact emotional regulation and relationships.

What parents and caregivers are noticing

"What stood out most was how practical and compassionate this approach felt. We weren't blamed, we were guided. Our child now has language for what's happening in their body, and meltdowns don't last as long or feel as scary anymore."
"As parents, we were stuck between wanting to be supportive and needing to hold boundaries. This approach showed us we don't have to choose one or the other. We learned how to regulate first, then problem-solve. Our child is more confident, and we're no longer walking on eggshells."
"Learning to support regulation instead of trying to 'fix' emotions changed everything. Our child feels safer, recovers faster, and trusts us more. I am a lot less overwhelmed."
